Abstract

Organic Chemistry of Natural Materials (KOBA) is a course that requires students to define, classify, and isolate compounds of natural materials. However, there are some students who still have difficulty understanding the application of material in everyday life. So that learning materials are needed that can make students active and independent in solving problems related to real life, namely by making E-Modules combined with the POE learning model. This study aims to obtain the validity of E-Module Based on POE products and to obtain questionnaire data on the responses of chemistry education students after using E-Module Based on POE. This type of research is Research and Development (R&D) with the Thiagarajan learning development model which consists of 4D (define, design, develop, and disseminate) which involves one group of subjects. The results showed that the E-Module Based on POE utilizing the Flip PDF Professional application produced a valid E-Module with an average CVR value of one. And the student response questionnaire data to the E-Module developed was 98.04% with the very good category. Means that the E-Module Based on POE developed can be a supplement to KOBA teaching materials.

Abstract

Cinnamaldehyde is a compound found in the skin of cinnamon plants which has various bioactivity. In this study, the compound cinnamaldehyde was modified with the help of Fe3O4 which was synthesized with the help of seaweed extract as a heterogeneous catalyst. Fe3O4-MNPs are synthesized using FeCl3 and Sargassum filipendula extracts as their natural reducing agents. The catalytic ability of Fe3O4 was evaluated in the reaction between cinnamaldehyde and aromatic ketone compounds synthesized by the reflux method. Structure Analysis and elucidation of the synthesized compounds were carried out by measuring the vibrations of the functional groups by FTIR, and the determination of H and C atoms by HNMR and CNMR analysis. The FTIR, proton and carbon NMR analysis have identified that the synthesized product was cinnamylideneacetophenone by the name 1,5-diphenylpyenta-2,4-dien-1-one. The optimum conditions were obtained at a catalyst concentration of 10% w/w for five hours with a yield of 36%. The yield of this reaction was better than the reaction without a catalyst.

Abstract

Used cooking oil is oil from frying which is an unused material. The processing of used cooking oil into biodiesel is expected to reduce household waste and become a new and renewable energy source. The first step in making biodiesel is the esterification process by measuring the value of free fatty acids. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum time used during the esterification process and to compare the volume of using sulfuric acid (H2SO4) catalyst using the Anova method. The research was conducted using an experimental method. The variables used in this study were the deposition time of 12 hours to 25 hours and the volume of catalyst compared was 2 ml and 4 ml for every 200 ml of used cooking oil. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the optimum conditions that can be used in the deposition process are at 18 hours using 4 ml of catalyst. Based on the results of ANOVA analysis, it can be concluded that the calculated F value (0.002) <F table (94.196), it means that the FFA value of the 2 and 4 ml catalyst variations does not have a significant difference. faster process.
